What is Welo Foundation?

Welo Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 which was founded in 2023 by Kumu Hula, Ipolei Lindsey-Asing shortly after opening Hālau Nāwehiokaipoaloha in Keaʻau, Puna. Our goal as Welo Foundation is to provide cultural opportunities that enrich our people and remain committed to the traditions of Hawaiʻi.

The heart behind Welo Foundation …

You often hear the saying, "welo ʻohana," a family trait which represents the lineage you descend from. Welo Foundation was inspired by our oldest daughter, Kawelolaupikookahālāwai. At a very young age she exemplified our family traditions of hula and Hawaiian music by dancing, singing, and chanting. Welo Foundation reminds us of our kuleana to our ʻohana, culture, ʻāina, and people.
